Save the Day with the D-Barb

It happened again yesterday. I cast my zoom speed worm rigged on a 2/0 owner sled head and covered with YUM Craw scent right into that lay down that sits fifty feet from my backyard. I slowly lifted my rod and …Tap… Tap… WHAM! I set the hook, and the fight was on! I carefully played the fish out of the lay down and brought it toward shore....

Hot Damn Daiwa!

It seems as if every summer I now start looking forward to ICAST to see all the hottest new tackle.  One of my favorite manufacturers whose products I cannot help but drool over is Daiwa.  Over the past few Daiwa has given the impression that they not only want to one up the competition but even outclass themselves.  Their new offerings appear to not only answer the needs...

Rockin’ Some New Bass Fishing Threads

This past weekend my girlfriend and I went over to our local Bass Pro Shops to pick up a Father’s Day gift for my dad. While there I accomplished the usual restocking of tackle as well as picking up a cool gift for my father. As we were heading to check out my girlfriend noticed some catchy new fishing t-shirts. These shirts weren’t the usual Guy Harvey graphic...

Quantum Leap…

A curious occurrence has happened this past weekend as the expiration date (5/31/2008) of Quantum’s REEL DEAL has come and gone. As I had expected a few online e-tailers have drastically lowered the price of their Tour Edition PT, Energy PT, and Accurist PT reels. All of this activity is hopefully a signal of newer things to come!

The current PT lineup has been around since late summer of 2005 and in the hands of Quantum pro staffers before then. These reels have won over the hearts of many, and have disappointed just as much. As a Quantum user since 1999 I’ve seen, used, and abused what they have defined as “Performance Tuned” baitcast tackle. The Accurist PT, E600s PT, 2006 Energy PT, and Tour Edition PT series of reels found a home amongst many American anglers arsenal, including my own. However, in all honesty, as much as I love the “tank like” durability of my TE1170PT (9.75oz), E750PT (9.55oz), and AC500PT (9.35oz); I also despise their “tank like” weight. Holding my TE1170PT as it sits on my Quantum 7’mh Superlite rod almost seems sacrilegious!

A New Shimano Curado?!?

Bass fishing fans everywhere have their curiosity peaked as there’s a rumored future release (Most likely after ICAST 2008) of a new version of the highly respected Shimano Curado Baitcaster.  After apparently losing ground in the $100-$200 price range category to Abu Garcia’s Revo line, and Daiwa’s competitively priced Advantage, Tierra, Megaforce and Exceler reels, Shimano is set on reclaiming their stake. Sure rebates might have boosted sales,...
